Phoenix Rotors model helicopter club was formed in the late summer of 2003. we were formed out of the need for a “dedicated” helicopter club in the Nottingham area. We were only a very small group of helicopter flyers with no where to enjoy our hobby at that time, we had been in many of the “local” clubs and found that the flying fields did not cater for our needs. So we made a “momentous decision” to form our own club and run it for the benefit of the growing interest of helicopter flyers. We are governed by the national body of the British Model Flying Association being members of the B.M.F.A gives us third party insurance of up to £5 million. We have our own 2 acre green field flying site near Farnsfield just north of Nottingham the site has full planning permission for RC model use and we will shortly have a club cabin onsite as well as use of a toilet very close by. We also meet every Tuesday evening at the Arnold working men's club from roughly 7 o'clock onwards (both locations can be found via a map in our where we fly section) This allows new members to come along and see some flying and discuss the latest developments on the helicopter scene. The models we fly can vary from quite simple and low cost, to very complex and at times very expensive, running in to many hundreds of pounds. The helicopters can be powered by small model engines around 9cc in capacity, which run on Methanol and Nitro methane; these engines are very powerful and can fly models that weigh up to 5 kg and a rotor span of more than 1.5 meters. As a club we can give advice on how to start this hobby, including setting up your helicopter and the lessons you will need to learn to fly a model helicopter, it takes good hand to eye coordination, and plenty of patience. We are always looking for new members to join the club, at the moment we are actively looking for new members for either Indoor or Outdoor Memberships.
